Ride The Rails in Europe

Do not make the assumption that the existence of the European Union translates to some kind of perfectly unified rail transportation system. If you are planning to experience Europe, you need to educate yourself with regards to how Rail Passes work. RailShopper.com is a good place to start. Depending on your plans, you may wish to purchase a selection of single country passes, or it might make more sense to buy a multiple country rail pass.

I have not traveled extensively in Europe, but I work with a Roman dude who has. His experiences with rail travel have generally been positive. There is a Eurorail Pass that is valid for a number of countries, check the following list of countries against your travel plans to see if it is the right pass for you.

Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

RailShopper.com is a great place to check pricing and schedules for European rali travel.
