The LAP-BAND System is an adjustable and reversible weight-loss surgery. It is the only device of this kind available in the United States today. Many of us are familiar with the principle. The band it placed around the stomach of a patient and then tightened in such a way as to create what is basically a mini stomach above the band. The result is that post operative patients feel physically full after eating only a small volume of food. Dangerously obese individuals have managed to lose much of their excess weight through this procedure.
